Class Format

Pay As You Go

For Pay As You Go classes, we teach the advanced class first and then we teach all the remaining levels side by side.  You progress through the class levels as and when you are ready (check with your teacher for guidance). We only engage teachers who can watch the class and ensure that they teach something that will deliver value to every dancer. Not an easy skill, though once you have been in a few classes, you will see what we mean.

Class Title Description
Beginners

This class takes you through the basic Salsa steps and how to dance with a partner. You will learn basic step patterns. We advise that you feel confident with all the basic steps before moving on to the next class.

Moves: Son, Pasea, Enchufla, Dile'que no, Casino,  Vacilala, New Yorker

Improvers

This class will show you how to put together a selection of moves to form a simple routine. It is suitable for those who feel competent with Basic Salsa footwork and Salsa music timing.

Moves: Enchufla variations, Dile'que no, Casino, La Prima (Adios), Sombrero, Setente (70), Setente y una (71), Ochente y cuatro (84)

Intermediates

Here we build the basic moves into longer more involved moves. It is suitable for those who feel competent dancing the moves in the Improvers.

Advanced

This class is for those who are comfortable with the Improvers’ and Intermediates moves and are ready to take their Salsa to the next level. This class takes no prisoners, we will not stop to help those who are struggling - if you are struggling, then you probably aren't really advanced.

Further info for advanced dancers

Those in the advance class are welcome to join the other classes. We believe there are more than enough Improver/ Intermediate moves to dance well all night. One challenge is that when people get into the top class, these moves are often forgotten or become 'rusty'. This is a chance for the dancers, new to the level to learn the move and the experienced dancers to style and improve the manner they dance the move. New dancers will benefit from dancing with the experienced dancers and will hopefully learn quicker.

If a move in the advanced session is too difficult, or just doesn’t suit you, it is quite ok to step out and then still get your lesson in the lower level. We know that there are people who can dance ‘La Rosa’ yet struggle with ‘Marieposa’.
